China Urges Stronger Cambodia Ties Amid Regional Challenges

PHNOM PENH, April 22, 2026 (KPT) — China has called for closer solidarity with Cambodia as both countries face what it described as a tense and chaotic external environment.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said Beijing was ready to work with Phnom Penh to advance the path of friendship pioneered by earlier generations of leaders and to put the vision of a “community with a shared future” into practice across all areas of bilateral relations.

The comments followed talks in Cambodia between Prime Minister Hun Manet and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defence Minister Dong Jun. Wang said both sides should maintain high‑level exchanges and jointly promote the construction of the “Industrial Development Corridor” and the “Fish and Rice Corridor,” aimed at boosting Cambodia’s capacity for independent development.

He added that the two countries must resolutely crack down on cross‑border online gambling and telecom fraud, while firmly supporting each other in multilateral forums. Wang said China and Cambodia would respond to external challenges with strategic coordination and resilience, working together to uphold fairness and justice.
