PHNOM PENH, April 23, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has reaffirmed its refusal to recognise any changes to its border with Thailand resulting from the use of force, as tensions persist over activities at a disputed temple site.

Government spokesman Pen Bona told reporters Thursday that Phnom Penh would “categorically reject” any attempt to alter boundaries through coercion, stressing Cambodia’s position was grounded in international law and established agreements.

His remarks follow a diplomatic row over recent religious ceremonies at Ta Krabey Temple, where Cambodian authorities protested the presence of senior Thai officials, including the culture and defence ministers, on April 22.

Bona said such actions violated Cambodia’s sovereignty and risked creating a “fait accompli” on the ground. Cambodia has also raised concerns over reported construction and Thai personnel at the site.

The activities contravene treaties such as the 1907 Franco Siamese agreement and undermine the mandate of the Joint Boundary Commission.

Cambodia urged Thailand to halt all activities and withdraw personnel, while reiterating its commitment to resolve the dispute peacefully through bilateral mechanisms.
