Xi Praises Samdech Hun Sen’s Role in Cambodia–China Ties, Wang Yi Says Partnership to Deepen

PHNOM PENH, April 23, 2026 (KPT) — China has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening relations with Cambodia, with President Xi Jinping praising Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen for his long standing role in building bilateral ties.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, speaking in Phnom Penh on Thursday, said Xi had conveyed greetings and recognition of Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s contribution to the relationship.
Wang added that the partnership was being further consolidated under Cambodia’s current leadership, with Beijing committed to supporting Phnom Penh’s development under the framework of a “community with a shared future.”
Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the bilateral relationship as an “ironclad friendship” that remained stable despite global uncertainty, and called on China to continue supporting Cambodia’s infrastructure and economic resilience.
He thanked Beijing for consistent backing across multiple fields and expressed confidence ties would deepen further.
Wang also briefed Samdech Techo Hun Sen on the outcomes of the recent Cambodia–China “2+2 Strategic Dialogue,” saying the talks produced positive results in expanding security and broader cooperation.
The meeting was held alongside high level diplomatic and defence engagements in Phnom Penh this week.
