PHNOM PENH, April 24, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has reaffirmed its commitment to resolving its border dispute with Thailand peacefully and in line with international law, government spokesman Pen Bona said Friday.

Speaking in Phnom Penh, Bona said Cambodia remained firmly committed to the joint statement issued after the third special meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee in December 2025, as well as a peace declaration signed in October.

He said the agreements aim to achieve a “peaceful, just and lasting solution” based on international law and bilateral treaties.

The remarks followed an informal meeting on April 23 between Cambodia’s Military Region 4 and Thailand’s 2nd Army Region at the Choam–Sa Ngam border gate in Oddar Meanchey province.

Both sides discussed strengthening coordination and implementing the GBC statement, including resolving local issues through existing mechanisms.

Earlier this week, Cambodia lodged a formal protest over continued Thai activities at Ta Krabey Temple, a disputed frontier site.

Phnom Penh said the reported presence of senior Thai ministers risked creating a “fait accompli” and violated agreements including the 1907 Franco Siamese Treaty, a 2000 memorandum of understanding and UN Charter principles.

Cambodia has urged Thailand to halt activities, withdraw personnel and resume negotiations under the Joint Boundary Commission.
