Cambodia Denies Social Media Claims of Thai Incursion in Pailin

PHNOM PENH, April 27, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian authorities have dismissed claims circulating on social media that Thai forces entered Pailin Province, describing the reports as false and misleading.
In a statement Monday, the Pailin Provincial Administration said posts alleging “Thailand has invaded Cambodian territory” had “no factual basis” and amounted to fake news.
Officials urged the public not to share or amplify the claims, warning they could cause confusion and undermine public trust. They called on social media users to rely only on verified official sources for updates.
The administration stressed that Cambodian security forces remain deployed along the border to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity, and would not allow any violation or intrusion.
Government spokesman Pen Bona earlier reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving its border dispute with Thailand peacefully and in line with international law.
He cited the joint statement issued after the third special meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee in December 2025 and a peace declaration signed in October as frameworks for a “peaceful, just and lasting solution.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also reiterated that Cambodia will not accept any changes to its border imposed by force.
Officials emphasized that disputes must be settled through diplomatic and technical mechanisms, strictly adhering to international law and bilateral treaties.
Authorities said the denial of the alleged incursion reflects Cambodia’s determination to counter misinformation while maintaining stability along its frontier with Thailand.
