PHNOM PENH, April 30, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has underscored China’s growing influence in Southeast Asia, crediting Beijing with playing a constructive role in easing border tensions and supporting humanitarian efforts, the foreign ministry said Wednesday.

During talks on April 23, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn discussed bilateral ties and wider regional issues, including displacement caused by clashes along the Cambodia–Thailand frontier.

Phnom Penh said Beijing encouraged dialogue and provided humanitarian assistance, reflecting its expanding diplomatic reach in mainland Southeast Asia.

China also reaffirmed support for Cambodia’s demining programs, a long standing priority in a country still affected by unexploded ordnance.

Officials said both sides would continue to coordinate within international frameworks and uphold UN Charter principles to promote regional stability.

Analysts noted that Cambodia’s recognition of China’s role in sensitive matters signals Beijing’s deeper involvement in regional mediation, while Cambodia’s alignment highlights its intent to strengthen cooperation on strategic and humanitarian fronts.
