PHNOM PENH, April 30, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn has told his Thai counterpart that Bangkok must stop actions violating Cambodian sovereignty if it wants Phnom Penh to cease raising concerns over the border situation.

Speaking to Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow during meetings in Brunei, Prak Sokhonn said Cambodia had exercised restraint to ease tensions, maintain the ceasefire and pursue peaceful solutions, but could not remain silent on issues affecting sovereignty and the homes of Cambodian citizens.

He accused Thai forces of continuing to occupy areas inside Cambodian territory since the December 27, 2025 ceasefire, including blocking access to villages with containers.

Such actions, he said, contradicted commitments made in a joint statement at the 3rd Extraordinary General Border Committee meeting.

Prak Sokhonn stressed Cambodia has raised the issue through diplomatic notes, official statements and interventions at international forums, insisting disputes must be resolved peacefully and legally.

On April 27, the two ministers met on the sidelines of the ASEAN‑EU Ministerial Meeting, reaffirming the ceasefire and pledging to resolve disputes peacefully despite continuing tensions.

Prak Sokhonn said lasting peace required “genuine commitment” and respect for international law, the ASEAN Charter and bilateral agreements.
