PHNOM PENH, April 6, 2026 (KPT) — A Philippine led observer team has arrived in Cambodia to take charge of ASEAN’s mission monitoring the ceasefire along the Cambodia–Thailand border, the Defence Ministry said Tuesday.

Spokeswoman Lieutenant General Maly Socheata said the delegation is headed by Commodore Glenn Z. Dizon, newly appointed Head of Mission of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT).

He was welcomed at Techo International Airport by Lieutenant General Phat Vibolsopheak, a senior defence official.

The deployment follows the formal handover of leadership from Malaysia to the Philippines on April 30 in Manila, overseen by senior military leaders from both countries.

Cambodia’s Defence Ministry expressed “deep appreciation” for the new team’s role in supporting regional peace efforts.

The AOT is tasked with monitoring and verifying compliance with the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, promoting transparency and building trust after recent border tensions.

Officials said the mission operates under accords reached at the December 2025 special meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee, and remains essential for maintaining stability and restoring normal conditions in affected frontier areas.
