LAPU LAPU CITY, Cebu, May 8, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadie Hun Manet has reiterated that Cambodia will not recognise any border changes imposed through force, stressing that disputes must be resolved peacefully through dialogue.

He made the remarks during a press briefing on the Cambodia–Thailand border situation chaired by Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Cebu.

Samdech Thipadie said Cambodia “reiterates that borders should not be changed by force or through fait accompli,” urging full implementation of the joint statement issued on December 27, 2025.

He added that both sides had agreed to task their foreign ministries with further discussions aimed at de escalation and restoring trust.

The Cambodian leader said the two countries would resume and strengthen bilateral mechanisms, including the Joint Boundary Commission, General Border Committee and Regional Border Committee.

He stressed the importance of rebuilding confidence through structured dialogue rather than unilateral actions.

Cambodia also expressed appreciation for the ASEAN Observer Team and called for stronger regional engagement to support ceasefire implementation.

President Marcos said both Cambodia and Thailand had reaffirmed their commitment to communication, restraint and avoiding escalation, adding that ASEAN would continue to support dialogue in line with principles of unity and stability.
