CEBU, Philippines, May 9, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia and Malaysia agreed to deepen cooperation in trade, investment and regional security during talks on the sidelines of the 48th ASEAN Summit, officials said Friday.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim in Cebu, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

Anwar said the frequent meetings between the two leaders reflected the “strong relationship and excellent cooperation” between Malaysia and Cambodia, according to a government statement.

He voiced support for expanding collaboration in sectors with economic potential.

Hun Manet thanked Anwar for Malaysia’s role in mediating ceasefire agreements between Cambodia and Thailand in July and December 2025, saying the involvement demonstrated ASEAN solidarity and contributed to regional stability.

The leaders discussed boosting trade and investment, with particular focus on the halal industry.

Hun Manet said Cambodia saw strong potential in halal food exports and welcomed Malaysia’s technical support in developing certification systems and infrastructure.

Talks also covered defence and security cooperation, alongside broader efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region.
