Cambodia Calls for Global Solidarity at World Health Assembly

GENEVA, May 20, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Health Minister Chheang Ra has urged stronger international cooperation and greater equity in global healthcare systems during the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva.

Addressing delegates from 185 member states on Monday, Professor Chheang Ra said the future of global health would depend on “building local capacity, equity and diversity.”

The annual assembly, convened by the World Health Organization under the theme “Reshaping Global Health: A Shared Responsibility,” is focusing on reforms to strengthen preparedness and resilience.

Chheang Ra highlighted Cambodia’s efforts to reinforce its healthcare system after the Covid‑19 pandemic and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage by 2035.

He outlined priorities including stronger primary healthcare services, improved protection against health risks, enhanced emergency preparedness, promotion of international solidarity and support for WHO reforms.

The minister said global health was at a “critical stage” that would shape future generations, stressing the importance of cooperation among nations. Cambodia’s participation, he added, reflects its growing role in international health policy and commitment to global initiatives.
