PHNOM PENH, May 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence announced Saturday that an ASEAN observer team has visited the Cambodia–Thailand frontier to monitor compliance with ceasefire agreements and stabilisation measures.

Ministry spokeswoman Lt Gen Maly Socheata said the Cambodian Liaison Group facilitated the ASEAN Observer Team’s (AOT) inspection at the O’Smach International Border Checkpoint in Oddar Meanchey province at 09:50 local time.

Led by the Head of Mission, the delegation was tasked with observing, verifying and reporting on the border situation, as well as reviewing the implementation of measures outlined in a joint statement issued after the ceasefire took effect.

Cambodia reaffirmed its full support for the AOT’s work, stressing the importance of strengthening its mandate to ensure agreements with Thailand are effectively implemented.

The ministry said Phnom Penh welcomed the involvement of “friendly nations” in the monitoring process, describing the move as a step to promote transparency, accountability and mutual trust.

The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defence reiterated their “firm, sincere and unwavering commitment” to implementing accords reached with Thailand, including the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thai General Boundary Committee signed on 27 December 2025, and the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement signed on 26 October 2025.

Officials said the agreements aim to restore normalcy, peace, stability and security for communities living along the shared border.
