NEW YORK, May 28, 2026 (KPT) — China has pledged to provide Cambodia with oil, gas and fertiliser to help address shortages, while confirming its readiness to welcome senior Cambodian officials for an official visit later this year, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Wednesday.

The commitment was made during talks with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn on the sidelines of a UN Security Council debate on upholding the UN Charter, peace, security and sustainable development.

According to Cambodia’s foreign ministry, Wang reaffirmed Beijing’s support for Cambodia’s development, highlighting assistance for energy and agriculture.

He said China remained committed to strengthening friendship and cooperation with Phnom Penh.

Prak Sokhonn praised China’s role in supporting efforts to peacefully resolve tensions along the Cambodia–Thailand border and thanked Beijing for inviting him to the UN debate.

He also conveyed gratitude for medical care provided to King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath.

Both sides welcomed the outcomes of the inaugural “2+2 Strategy” meeting between their foreign and defence ministers in Phnom Penh last month, agreeing to upgrade the mechanism to a “3+3” format to deepen political, military and security cooperation.

The planned visit reflects Cambodia’s commitment to international law, mutual respect and peaceful dispute resolution, while reinforcing China’s role as a key partner in regional stability.

The ministry added that closer ties would support Cambodia’s long‑term development goals and contribute to broader regional peace and prosperity.
