PHNOM PENH, June 1, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has welcomed the planned opening of a Luxembourg development cooperation office in Phnom Penh, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening bilateral ties and expanding development partnership.

The announcement followed talks on May 28 between Meas Kim Heng, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Thomas Lammar, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Luxembourg’s embassy to Laos.

Kim Heng praised Luxembourg’s longstanding support for Cambodia’s socio‑economic development and said the presence of Lux‑Development, the country’s aid agency, would deepen cooperation in priority sectors.

He noted that the office would provide a permanent platform for dialogue and project coordination, reinforcing trust and visibility between the two governments.

Lammar reaffirmed Luxembourg’s commitment to Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy, citing human resource development, healthcare, rural development, poverty reduction, environmental protection and humanitarian demining as key areas of focus.

He also introduced the candidate nominated to serve as country manager of the future office, underscoring Luxembourg’s readiness to move forward with implementation.

During the meeting, the Cambodian side briefed the delegation on recent border tensions with Thailand and reiterated its commitment to resolving disputes peacefully in line with international law and existing agreements.

Officials said the new office would further anchor Luxembourg’s role as a reliable partner in Cambodia’s long‑term development.
