PHNOM PENH, July 3, 2026 (KPT) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has reaffirmed its commitment to Cambodia following talks with Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet in Phnom Penh.
ICRC Regional Head of Delegation Jürg Montani paid a courtesy call on Samdech Thipadei at the Peace Palace on July 2, highlighting cooperation with the Cambodian Red Cross and the government in emergency response and in promoting International Humanitarian Law.
Montani noted the organisation’s humanitarian activities during recent border tensions with Thailand and said he had visited ICRC‑supported projects in Battambang province, including a physical rehabilitation programme and a prison health initiative.
He pledged continued support and expanded cooperation with Cambodia.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet congratulated Montani on his appointment and thanked the ICRC for its humanitarian work, including assistance during the border crisis and facilitating the release of 18 Cambodian soldiers detained by Thailand.
The premier underscored Cambodia’s National Social Protection Policy Framework 2024‑2035, citing programmes for pregnant women and young children in correctional facilities, and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to international law and International Humanitarian Law.
Samdech Thipadei also briefed the delegation on the latest border developments, reiterating Cambodia’s stance that outstanding issues must be resolved peacefully under international law and existing bilateral agreements.
