Cambodia highlights Global Development Initiative’s role in supporting 2030 Agenda

NEW YORK, July 6, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has underscored the importance of the Global Development Initiative (GDI) in advancing the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, urging stronger international partnerships and more targeted cooperation.
Speaking at the Third Policy Dialogue between the Group of Friends of the GDI and the UN Task Force on Leveraging Partnerships at UN Headquarters, Cambodia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Yaung Chansophea, said closer collaboration was essential to address global development challenges.
The meeting was hosted by China’s Permanent Mission to the UN and marked the fifth anniversary of the initiative.
Chansophea said the GDI’s guiding principles – innovation-driven growth, inclusiveness and a people-centred approach – were closely aligned with Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy-Phase I.
He pointed to rural development, skills training for emerging green industries, digital transformation and climate resilience as priority areas where Cambodia sees opportunities for deeper cooperation with international partners.
The envoy reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to working with the UN and member states to promote sustainable development and achieve the goals of the 2030 Agenda.
He stressed that the GDI provides a valuable framework for countries to share experiences, mobilize resources and strengthen collective action in tackling poverty, inequality and climate change.
Cambodia’s intervention reflected its broader push to integrate national strategies with global initiatives, highlighting the need for inclusive partnerships that can deliver tangible benefits for communities most affected by development gaps.
