PHNOM PENH, July 16, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia and the United Arab Emirates have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties by accelerating work on several pending agreements, the Cambodian Embassy in Kuwait said Thursday.

The pledge was made during talks on July 14 between Cambodia’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Chhay Makara – also accredited to the UAE – and UAE Ambassador to Kuwait, Mata Hamed Al Neyadi.

According to the embassy, the two envoys agreed to encourage their respective ministries and institutions to expedite completion of outstanding bilateral documents aimed at expanding cooperation.

They also discussed preparations for the Second Inter‑Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, scheduled to be held in Cambodia.

Among the pending agreements reviewed were a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations, an Agreement on Visa Exemption, and an MoU on Labour Cooperation and Consular Affairs.

Ambassador Makara was accompanied by Sos Sovannny, First Secretary at the Cambodian Embassy in Kuwait, and Sleh Matly, Assistant to the Ambassador.

Cambodia and the UAE have expanded diplomatic and economic ties in recent years, seeking closer cooperation in trade, investment, labour, tourism and political dialogue.

The UAE has also stepped up engagement with Southeast Asia as part of its broader strategy to strengthen relations with ASEAN member states.
