Singapore joins ASEAN observer mission on Cambodia‑Thailand border

PHNOM PENH, July 25, 2026 (KPT) – Singapore has deployed two military officers to join the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) monitoring the ceasefire along the Cambodia‑Thailand border, Cambodia’s defence ministry said Friday.

Spokeswoman of the ministry said the Cambodia Liaison Group (CLG) welcomed Major Lim Jun Da and First Warrant Officer Tan Jun Wei, who arrived on July 24 to join the mission.

The AOT is led by the Philippines as ASEAN’s rotating chair and is tasked with observing and verifying the situation along the frontier following the ceasefire.

Cambodia said it continued to support the team’s work, describing its role as ensuring the truce is implemented, promoting transparency, building trust and protecting civilians.

The ministry added that Cambodia welcomed friendly countries willing to send observers or assist in peace‑building.

The Royal Government and the defence ministry reiterated their “firm, sincere and unwavering commitment” to implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia‑Thailand General Border Committee signed on Dec 27, 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement signed on Oct 26, 2025, and other accords.

The statement said the commitment aimed to support recovery, restore normalcy and promote lasting peace and stability.

Border tensions between Cambodia and Thailand flared in 2025, prompting ASEAN to step in with a ceasefire agreement and observer mission.

The deployment of Singaporean officers marks a further show of regional solidarity, as ASEAN seeks to prevent renewed clashes and reinforce confidence‑building measures along the frontier.
