PM Hun Manet condemns Thai military violence against Cambodian civilians

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov.12, 2025) — Prime Minister Hun Manet on Tuesday strongly condemned the use of force by Thai soldiers against Cambodian civilians in Prey Chan village, Banteay Meanchey province, which left one person dead and three injured.

“This act of violence violates humanitarian principles and undermines previous agreements to resolve border issues peacefully,” Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said in a statement. He cited the role of the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) in overseeing temporary demarcation and maintaining the status quo until final decisions are reached.

The Prime Minister called on Thailand to immediately halt the use of force against Cambodian civilians and refrain from military approaches to bilateral border disputes. He urged an independent investigation with participation from qualified international experts to uncover the truth and deliver justice to the victims.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also instructed local authorities and security forces to take urgent measures to protect civilians, emphasizing their safety and lives as a top priority.

“Cambodia remains committed to peaceful resolution in line with the spirit of the Joint Statement issued in Kuala Lumpur on October 26, 2025, to end conflict and build lasting peace between our two nations,” he said.
