Three Investment Projects Worth $250 Million to Create 12,000 Jobs in Northeastern Cambodia
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct. 14, 2025) — Three new investment projects in Kratie and Ratanakiri provinces are expected to generate more than 12,000 jobs and inject over $250 million into Cambodia’s northeastern region, according to the Inter-Ministerial Working Group for Investment Promotion in the Northeast.

The announcement followed a technical meeting held on Friday at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, chaired by Dr. Hean Sahib, secretary of state and senior advisor to the prime minister. The meeting reviewed governance frameworks and regulatory procedures for the proposed investments, which aim to improve livelihoods and boost regional development.
Dr. Sahib highlighted the strategic role of agricultural and agro-industrial investments in unlocking the region’s economic potential. He emphasized productivity gains, value-added processing, and export growth as key drivers for attracting further investment.

The working group also examined project compliance with Cambodian standards and discussed mechanisms to ensure transparency, social benefits, and long-term sustainability.
As of August 2025, the government had received 14 investment proposals worth approximately $1.3 billion in the northeast, spanning agriculture, agro-industry, tourism, and infrastructure, including a proposed multi-purpose port.
Dr. Sahib urged continued support not only for new projects but also for existing enterprises, stressing the importance of direct engagement to resolve challenges and promote import substitution amid ongoing tensions with Thailand.
