PARIS, Mar. 4, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has officially joined the International Organisation of Pension Supervisors (IOPS) as a Governing Member, marking a significant step in strengthening oversight of its social security system, officials said Tuesday.

The announcement came during a joint meeting of the OECD Working Party on Insurance and Private Pensions (WPIP) and IOPS, held as part of OECD Financial Markets Week at the organisation’s Paris headquarters.

Secretary of State and Kouch Somany

Dr. Kouch Somany, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, led Cambodia’s delegation to the gathering, which brought together around 300 delegates from 70 countries.

Cambodian officials said the IOPS Executive Committee approved the country’s Governing Membership on March 3, recognising its efforts to advance pension supervision and social security reform.

Dr. Somany said the membership reflects Cambodia’s commitment to stronger governance in managing and investing social security funds, ensuring transparency, accountability and long-term sustainability.

He added that participation in IOPS will allow Cambodia to draw on international best practices in pension fund investment, benefit management and contribution-based social security systems, in line with evolving regional and global economic contexts.

Delegates at the meeting discussed policy frameworks for asset-based pensions, regulatory updates, research findings and preparations for the upcoming annual general meeting. The event also reviewed future cooperation between IOPS and OECD members to further improve pension supervision worldwide.
