Cambodia Attends US Led Peace Board Meeting, Signals Commitment to Global Diplomacy, Analysts Say

PHNOM PENH, Feb 17, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s participation in the inaugural meeting of the US led “Peace Board” underscores its bid to position itself as a constructive actor in global diplomacy, analysts said Tuesday.

Invited by US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Hun Manet is due to attend the launch of the initiative at the United States Institute of Peace on February 19, part of an official mission to Washington running until February 27.

The Board was established under a UN Security Council resolution adopted in November 2025 to promote peace and reconstruction in Gaza while addressing wider stability issues.

Political analyst Kin Phea said Cambodia’s attendance reflects its pacifist foreign policy and commitment to multilateralism.

“This participation demonstrates that Cambodia is not passive but actively engaged in mechanisms dedicated to global stability,” he noted, adding that the move diversifies diplomatic channels and safeguards sovereignty.

Lecturer Thong Mengdavid said the engagement signals Cambodia’s intent to be seen as a peace oriented state, building on its contributions to UN peacekeeping.

He added that the platform could provide strategic benefits, including collaboration with major powers and regional stakeholders on shared security concerns such as tensions along the Thai border.

Analysts agreed that while immediate breakthroughs are unlikely, Cambodia’s involvement enhances its international profile and reinforces its image as a proactive partner in conflict resolution.
