PHNOM PENH, 7 February 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence announced it has facilitated an ASEAN observer mission to a border area in Pursat province to assess conditions following the implementation of a ceasefire.

In a statement issued Friday, ministry spokesperson Lieutenant General Maly Socheata said the Cambodian Liaison Group assisted the ASEAN Observer Team in observing, verifying and reporting on the situation in O’Thmor village, Veal Veng district, at 10:05 local time. The visit took place after the ceasefire had come into effect, the statement noted.

The ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to respecting and implementing the ceasefire agreement and related accords, including the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand signed on 26 October 2025,

the Joint Statement of the third special meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee on 27 December 2025, and other relevant documents.

Officials said the information was being made public for both domestic and international audiences, including media organisations.

Separately, Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Thursday it had lodged a formal protest against Thailand after Thai armed forces placed three shipping containers near a disputed border area.

The containers were installed on 3 February in An Seh village, Choam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province, in territory Phnom Penh insists lies within Cambodia’s sovereign borders.

Officials said the move obstructed access to the An Seh International Border Checkpoint.

In its statement, Cambodia described the action as a violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning it could alter the local security environment, consolidate military control and create new facts on the ground.

Government spokesman Pen Bona reiterated Thursday that Cambodia remained committed to resolving boundary disputes with Thailand through peaceful means and international law, rejecting any attempt to alter borders by force.

“Our position is consistent and unwavering,” he told reporters, stressing Phnom Penh would not accept violations of sovereignty.
