Cambodia’s Mining Royalties Surge to US$135 Million in 2025
PHNOM PENH, Feb 4, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s royalty income from mining rose sharply to more than US$135 million in 2025, a jump officials credited to sector reforms and stronger engagement with private operators.
Mines and Energy Minister Keo Rottanak said the increase reflects efforts to streamline procedures and cut bureaucracy, particularly in the stone quarry sub sector. He noted royalties had previously stood at about US$40 million, with the latest figure excluding other taxes and fees that would push total state revenue even higher.

Rottanak said reforms removed unnecessary steps while maintaining oversight, enabling companies to operate more efficiently under a clearer regulatory framework. He stressed that projects proceed only after studies assess impacts on the environment, people and wildlife, adding that mining has generated jobs and community benefits.
Cambodia currently has more than 40 companies holding over 60 mining licenses, including foreign firms, local operators and joint ventures. The minister highlighted the creation of a stone quarry association to coordinate industry practices and sustain reforms.
He described the results as a point of pride, showing economic gains can be pursued alongside environmental considerations.
