Cambodia sets up panel to review investment bids for old Phnom Penh airport site
PHNOM PENH, Jan 21, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has formed an inter ministerial committee to oversee private investment proposals for the redevelopment of the former Phnom Penh International Airport, officials said Tuesday.
The State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) said the 14-member panel, appointed by Prime Minister Hun Manet, will manage existing infrastructure at the site and assess investment bids.

The committee is chaired by Chheang Vannarith, Secretary of State at the Office of the Council of Ministers, with vice chairs from the SSCA and the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Its tasks include maintaining electricity and water systems, drainage, pumping stations and green areas, while ensuring transparent decision making on redevelopment plans.
SSCA spokesman Sinn Chansereyvutha said the panel will act as the sole authority to review and approve proposals, a structure designed to ensure coordination and accountability.
The government expects the site to be transformed into a public park and urban space by 2026, with annual maintenance costs estimated at about USD 3 million.
The former Phnom Penh International Airport closed in September 2025 after nearly 70 years of service, following the opening of the new Techo International Airport.
