Second Chinese aid shipment arrives in Cambodia for border evacuees

PHNOM PENH, Jan 8, 2026 (KPT) — A second shipment of Chinese humanitarian aid has arrived in Cambodia to support thousands displaced by recent border tensions with Thailand, officials said Thursday.

The National Committee for Disaster Management held a reception ceremony for the delivery, which will be distributed to evacuation and safety centres in affected provinces, according to a government statement.

The committee said the supplies would be transported onwards to temporary shelters to ensure timely assistance.

The latest shipment follows an initial delivery on December 28, 2025. Cambodian authorities said the aid reflects ongoing cooperation between Phnom Penh and Beijing, particularly in responding to humanitarian needs during crises.

China is one of Cambodia’s closest partners, providing support in infrastructure, disaster relief and post conflict recovery.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced last month that Beijing would send humanitarian supplies to help resettle people displaced by clashes.

He said China was closely monitoring the situation, welcomed the ceasefire, and urged both sides to rebuild trust and stabilize relations.

Wang added that China supports ASEAN’s role in monitoring the truce and called on Cambodia to continue safeguarding Chinese citizens and projects in the country.
