U.S., China and UN Unite to Back Cambodia–Thailand Ceasefire
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 28, 2025) — The United States, China and the United Nations have jointly welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, marking a rare moment of diplomatic convergence among major powers aimed at ending hostilities along the two countries’ shared border.
The U.S. Embassy in Cambodia said in a statement on its official Facebook page that Washington welcomes the truce and urged both sides to fully implement the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords.

“It is great news that Cambodia and Thailand have reached consensus on a ceasefire,” the Chinese Embassy said, expressing hope the agreement will be effectively carried out and that life for border communities will soon return to normal. Beijing reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace talks and pledged to play a constructive role in restoring stability.
The United Nations also hailed the ceasefire, calling it a positive step toward alleviating civilian suffering and creating conditions for lasting peace. UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric said the organization appreciates the efforts of Malaysia, the current ASEAN chair, as well as China and the United States, in supporting a peaceful resolution.
The ceasefire follows renewed clashes that erupted Dec. 7, prompting intensified mediation by Malaysia, the United States and China, which ultimately led to Saturday’s agreement.
