Cambodia Reports Thai Use of Tanks, Jets, Drones, Heavy Artillery in Border Attacks
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec. 21, 2025) — Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence accused Thailand on Sunday of escalating border clashes with heavy weaponry, including tanks, fighter jets, drones and large-caliber artillery, despite a ceasefire signed in October.
Spokesperson Maly Socheata said Thai forces carried out sustained attacks between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear and Banteay Meanchey provinces, using toxic smoke, mortars, 155mm artillery, armored vehicles and aerial strikes.
The ministry reported shelling near sensitive sites, including the Preah Vihear Temple and Ta Moan Thom, and alleged that fighter aircraft dropped bombs in Svay Chek District. Artillery fire also struck areas near Poipet City, some of them civilian-populated zones.
Authorities said the scale of weaponry marked a serious escalation, posing grave risks to civilians and cultural heritage. The ministry stressed Cambodia’s actions remain defensive and urged Thailand to halt attacks and honor the ceasefire as regional and international efforts continue to press for de-escalation.
