Cambodia Reaffirms Commitment to Global Food System Alliance
BELÉM, Brazil, (Nov. 19, 2025) — Cambodia has reaffirmed its commitment to the Alliance of Champions for Food System Transformation, saying it is ready to share its experience and work with other countries to build more resilient, low-carbon food systems.
Speaking at an alliance meeting during the UNFCCC COP30 summit in Belém, Environment Minister Eang Sophalleth said food system reform is central to climate action and sustainable development.
He noted that Cambodia’s Third Nationally Determined Contribution places food system transformation at the core of strategies for mitigation, adaptation and resilience. Priorities include healthy diets, climate-smart agriculture, ecological restoration, reducing food loss and ensuring gender inclusion.
These goals are reflected in Cambodia’s Roadmap for Sustainable Food Systems Development for 2025–2030 and the Third National Strategy for Food Security and Nutrition for 2024–2028.
Sophalleth said Cambodia has benefited from its engagement with the alliance since COP28, gaining experience in integrating food and climate policies across ministries and strengthening cooperation with UN agencies, financial institutions and development partners.
He added that the launch of the alliance’s Progress Framework marks an important step toward deeper collaboration and resource mobilization.
The alliance welcomed Italy and Vietnam as new members this year. Launched at COP28 in Dubai in 2023, it originally included Brazil, Cambodia, Norway, Rwanda and Sierra Leone.
