Cambodia’s Deputy PM Promotes Investment Ties During Canada Visit
TORONTO, Canada (Oct.30, 2025) — Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol met with Ontario lawmaker Caroline Mulroney this week to discuss strengthening economic and investment cooperation between Cambodia and Canada.
Chanthol, who also serves as first vice-chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, is leading a delegation on an official visit aimed at promoting trade and attracting foreign investment.
The meeting with Mulroney, a member of the Ontario Provincial Parliament and chair of the Ontario Financing Authority, focused on expanding bilateral ties in trade, investment and development.
Chanthol thanked Mulroney for what he called a “warm welcome and productive discussions,” and outlined Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy – Phase I, which prioritizes foreign direct investment, economic diversification and regulatory reform to support inclusive growth.
He proposed co-hosting an Investment and Trade Forum alongside the 20th Francophonie Summit, scheduled to take place in Siem Reap in November 2026.
The forum would offer Canadian and Francophone investors a platform to explore opportunities in Cambodia’s key sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture, renewable energy and tourism.
Mulroney, who also serves as Ontario’s Minister of Francophone Affairs, praised Cambodia’s reform efforts and shared Ontario’s experiences in governance and financial transparency.
She voiced support for the proposed forum, calling it a valuable step toward deepening business ties.
Officials described the meeting as a positive move toward enhancing bilateral cooperation and fostering mutual prosperity.
