Cambodian Official Reaffirms Climate Commitment at Korea Seminar
SEOUL, South Korea (Oct.22,2025) — Cambodia remains committed to tackling climate change and meeting its global obligations, despite being a small emitter of greenhouse gases, a senior Cambodian official said Tuesday.

Keo Piseth, deputy secretary-general of the National Assembly and director of the Cabinet of the President of the National Assembly, delivered a keynote address at the 14th International Seminar on Parliamentary Research Services in South Korea. His speech focused on “Trends in Legislation and Policies in Response to the Climate Crisis.”
Keo said Cambodia, a small developing country, continues to suffer disproportionately from the effects of climate change. He noted that the country has been actively involved in climate initiatives since 1995 and remains committed to building a more resilient and environmentally sustainable future.
He cited the government’s Pentagon Strategy Phase I and its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 as key efforts toward sustainable development and emissions reduction.
“The Cambodian government is determined to transition toward a cleaner, greener nation,” Keo said. He added that the National Assembly is supported in this work by its Department of National Affairs Research and Department of International Affairs Research.
The two-day seminar, held Oct. 21–22, brought together delegates from 17 countries to discuss legislative trends and strategies related to climate policy and reducing inequality. Speakers shared experiences and insights from their respective countries.
On the sidelines of the event, Keo held bilateral meetings with several delegations to strengthen partnerships and exchange views on regional issues.
He briefed counterparts on the status of the Cambodia–Thailand border dispute and the government’s efforts to combat online fraud and scams.
Keo said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet, the Cambodian government continues to prioritize peace as the foundation for sustainable development and national progress.
