Cambodia, Thailand Hold Border Committee Talks Amid Ongoing Tensions
ODDAR MEANCHEY, Cambodia (Oct. 10, 2025) — Cambodia and Thailand held a regional border committee meeting Friday at the O’Smach International Border Gate to discuss steps toward de-escalating tensions along their shared border.

Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, spokeswoman for Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense, said the meeting was convened in response to an invitation from the head of Cambodia’s Regional Border Committee Secretariat, the commander of the 4th Military Region.
The talks took place at the Cambodia-Thailand liaison hall and included secretariats from Cambodia’s 4th Military Region and Thailand’s 2nd Army Area.
Brig. Gen. Nith Narong, deputy chief of staff of Cambodia’s 4th Military Region, led the Cambodian delegation. The Thai delegation was headed by Maj. Gen. Kamphanat Waphansuk, chief of staff of the 2nd Army Area.
The two sides discussed three key agenda items: the introduction of the newly formed Coordination Group from both countries, a continued commitment to de-escalate tensions, and preparations for the upcoming Regional Border Committee meeting scheduled for Oct. 15–17.
Socheata said the meeting aligns with the mandate of the General Border Committee and follows agreements reached during the first extraordinary RBC meeting held Aug. 27 between the same military regions.
She added that the meeting’s core objectives were to ensure full and effective implementation of the cease-fire, reinforce mutual commitment to de-escalation, and promote cooperation aimed at restoring peace, stability and normalcy along the border.
