PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct.10, 2025) — The Cambodian government on Thursday accused Thai officials of distorting facts about recent tensions along the Cambodia-Thailand border, rejecting claims that it fired first, violated a ceasefire, encroached on Thai territory and threatened Thailand’s national security.Cambodia said it is the victim in the dispute.

On Oct. 9, Thai Prime Minister told domestic media that “Thailand is the one being encroached and victimized.” He also proposed that Cambodia relocate citizens who have lived in border areas for decades as a condition for peace.

Cambodia said it remains committed to peace and friendship with its neighbors. It denied any incursion into Thai territory and said it reserves the right to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity under national and international law.

The government reiterated that border issues should be resolved through peaceful, technical processes rather than force. It said it has exercised restraint despite what it described as provocations and ceasefire violations by Thailand.

Cambodia called on Thailand to demonstrate goodwill and urged both sides to use existing bilateral mechanisms — including the Joint Boundary Commission, the General Boundary Committee and the Royal Boundary Committee — and to adhere to treaties, conventions and international law.

It said that approach is the only path to lasting peace.
