Hun Sen urges ceasefire, normalcy amid Cambodia–Thailand border tensions
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct. 3, 2025) — Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen, acting head of state, has renewed Cambodia’s call for a ceasefire and restoration of normalcy in ongoing border tensions with Thailand, as diplomatic efforts to resolve the dispute continue.

Speaking during a courtesy meeting with a Malaysian Senate delegation led by Datuk Wira Mohd Hatta bin Md Ramli on Oct. 2, Samdech Techo outlined the background of the conflict, the current situation, and Cambodia’s commitment to a peaceful resolution.
“What Cambodia truly wants is to maintain a ceasefire and move toward a solution that restores the normalcy the two countries had previously enjoyed,” he said.
He thanked Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for his proactive role in facilitating dialogue and expressed appreciation for Malaysia’s support in regional peace efforts.
Samdech Techo also reflected on Cambodia’s post-conflict recovery, citing his leadership in ending civil war and achieving full peace in 1998. He noted the country’s continued development under a new generation of leaders.

Datuk Wira Mohd Hatta praised Cambodia’s stability and infrastructure progress, highlighting the newly inaugurated Techo International Airport as a symbol of national growth.
The visit underscored regional support for a peaceful resolution, as tensions persist despite a ceasefire agreement signed in late July.
