Brazil Urges Peaceful Resolution to Cambodia–Thailand Border Dispute
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept.25, 2025) — Brazil’s newly appointed Ambassador to Cambodia, Vivian Loss Sanmartin, on Thursday called for Cambodia and Thailand to resolve their ongoing border dispute through peaceful negotiations and mutual respect for ceasefire commitments.

The appeal was made during a meeting with Senate President Hun Sen at the Senate Palace, where Ambassador Sanmartin formally presented her letter of credence.

According to Senate spokesperson Chea Thyrith, Samdech Techo Hun Sen briefed the ambassador on the latest developments along the Cambodia–Thailand border, including recent tensions and unilateral actions that have raised concern.
Ambassador Sanmartin urged both sides to uphold diplomatic mechanisms and avoid confrontation, emphasizing the importance of regional stability and adherence to international law.

The meeting also touched on the growing bilateral relationship between Cambodia and Brazil. Over the past decade, the two countries have expanded cooperation in agriculture, education, and technical exchange. Brazil has supported Cambodia’s rice and cassava sectors through knowledge-sharing initiatives, while Cambodia has welcomed Brazilian investment in renewable energy and agribusiness.
Officials said the ambassador’s remarks reflect Brazil’s broader commitment to peacebuilding and multilateral dialogue in Southeast Asia. The Cambodian government reaffirmed its position to resolve all border issues through peaceful means and existing bilateral frameworks.
