Cambodian Prime Minister Urges ASEAN Chair to Help Defuse Border Clashes with Thailand
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Sept.19, 2025) — Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on Thursday urged Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, to intervene in escalating border tensions with Thailand.

Hun Manet raised the issue during a phone call with Anwar, citing recent clashes in Phum Prey Chan village, located in O’Bei Choan commune, Ou Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province. The confrontation between Thai armed forces and Cambodian civilians has left several people injured.
The Cambodian leader called for urgent ASEAN involvement to help de-escalate the situation, maintain the status quo, and prevent further violence.
He reiterated Cambodia’s commitment to resolving the dispute peacefully through the Joint Boundary Commission, in accordance with the agreement reached during the General Border Committee’s special meeting on Sept. 10.
