Cambodia’s Dried Fruit Exports Break Into Australian Market

Phnom Penh, Cambodia (Aug. 15, 2025) — Cambodian agribusiness Royal Trust Trading Co., Ltd. (RTT) has launched its first commercial shipment of dried fruit and nuts to Australia, marking a new milestone in bilateral trade supported by the Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED).

The inaugural shipment, totaling more than 12 metric tonnes, includes cashew nuts, dried mangoes, jackfruit, banana and taro chips. A second, larger consignment is already in preparation, signaling growing demand and export capacity.

The deal was facilitated through CAPRED’s targeted support for export readiness and market linkages, part of Australia’s broader strategy to strengthen Cambodia’s agro-processing sector and trade competitiveness.

“Australia is partnering with Cambodia to help local businesses access new markets and integrate into global value chains,” said Derek Yip, Australia’s Ambassador to Cambodia. “These efforts support Cambodia’s ambition to graduate from Least Developed Country status and deepen our economic partnership.”

Cambodia’s Secretary of State for Commerce, Samheng Bora, said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to economic resilience amid global uncertainty. “Australian support has been instrumental in enabling this export breakthrough,” he said.

RTT Chairman Chhin Sophal said the shipment demonstrates the growing capability of Cambodian enterprises to meet international standards. “We’re confident this is just the beginning,” he said.

Bilateral trade between Cambodia and Australia reached $1.1 billion in 2024, with Cambodian exports accounting for more than 70% of the total. The dried fruit shipment adds momentum to Cambodia’s push to diversify its export base and expand access to premium markets.
