PHNOM PENH, March 18, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s human rights body has warned of growing humanitarian challenges from ongoing border tensions with Thailand, citing displacement and restrictions affecting civilians.

Keo Remy, president of the Cambodia Human Rights Committee, told a meeting in Phnom Penh that tightened controls and incidents along the frontier have disrupted livelihoods and movement, particularly for migrant workers.

The committee said tens of thousands remain displaced months after a bilateral understanding reached in late 2025, while damage to infrastructure and cultural sites has added to hardship. Officials also pointed to construction in disputed zones as a risk to future talks.

Remy said the committee has stepped up its response, documenting alleged violations, engaging with international mechanisms and delivering humanitarian aid, alongside legal support and monitoring in vulnerable communities.

He reiterated Cambodia’s stance that disputes should be resolved peacefully through international law and diplomacy.

The meeting also reviewed broader rights work, including prison monitoring and cooperation with ASEAN’s rights commission.
