PHNOM PENH, March 28, 2026 (KPT)– Cambodia’s education minister has met a senior Francophone academic official to boost higher education ties and prepare for next year’s Francophonie summit in Phnom Penh.

Deputy Prime Minister Hang Chuon Naron held talks on March 27 with Nicolas Maïnetti, Asia-Pacific regional director of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), during a courtesy visit in the capital.

The two discussed expanding cooperation in academic training, research and promotion of the French language in Cambodian universities. Maïnetti announced the AUF’s Asia-Pacific office would be relocated to Cambodia, a move hailed by both sides as strengthening collaboration.

They also explored activities linked to the 20th Francophonie Summit, which Cambodia will host in 2026.

Hang Chuon Naron welcomed AUF’s support for French-language education and urged further initiatives such as training programmes, workshops and online exchanges to build student capacity.

The meeting underscored efforts to develop human resources through Francophone education as Cambodia prepares to host the international gathering.
