PHNOM PENH, March 28, 2026 (KPT) – Military officers from Malaysia and Singapore have arrived in Cambodia to join a regional mission monitoring a ceasefire along the Thai-Cambodian frontier, the defence ministry said Friday.

Two Malaysian officers, Lieutenant Colonel Mohd Amin bin Baharom and Lieutenant Colonel Mohd Erry bin Dul, landed at Siem Reap Angkor International Airport at 13:50 local time on March 27, ministry spokeswoman Lieutenant General Maly Socheata said in a statement.

Later the same day, Singaporean officers Major Wong Zheng Ernest and Warrant Officer Shasi Kumar arrived to take part in the mission.

All four will serve under the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), currently led by the Philippines as ASEAN chair, with a mandate to observe, verify and report on measures agreed by Cambodia and Thailand.

Phnom Penh said it backed the mission’s role in ensuring the ceasefire and related agreements were fully implemented, adding that foreign observers would help promote transparency, accountability and trust between the two neighbours.

Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to accords with Thailand, including the outcomes of a General Border Committee meeting in December 2025 and a peace agreement signed the previous October.

Officials said the efforts aimed to restore normalcy in affected areas and secure long-term peace and stability along the border.
