PHNOM PENH, Mar 31, 2026 (KPT) — Japan’s Yazaki Corporation will expand its footprint in Cambodia with a new automotive parts plant in Koh Kong province, officials said Monday, a project expected to create about 1,000 jobs and bolster the country’s manufacturing base.

Chea Vuthy, Secretary-General of the Cambodian Investment Board, met with Yoshimoto Ito, a senior Yazaki executive, to discuss the investment plan.

Yazaki, which has operated in Cambodia since 2010, produces automotive wiring harnesses and components and has steadily grown its presence over the past decade. The new facility is scheduled to begin operations by late 2027, adding to the company’s existing workforce of roughly 2,000 employees in Koh Kong.

Vuthy hailed the expansion as a sign of investor confidence in Cambodia despite global and regional uncertainties. He said the project would not only generate employment but also strengthen the country’s industrial base.

The move aligns with Cambodia’s strategy to attract foreign direct investment in higher-value manufacturing sectors, including automotive components and electronics.

Ito thanked the Cambodian government for its support, noting that a stable investment climate and effective facilitation by authorities had enabled Yazaki to expand operations.
