Cambodia Denies Request to Reopen Thai Border for Emergency Goods

PHNOM PENH, April 17, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia’s defence ministry has dismissed reports claiming it asked Thailand to reopen their shared border to allow emergency supplies through, calling the allegations “false and contrary to the facts.”
Spokesperson Lieutenant General Maly Socheata said Wednesday that claims circulating on social media and in some Thai outlets were unfounded and may have been spread deliberately to mislead public opinion.
The ministry stressed that Thailand had closed the crossing unilaterally and that responsibility for reopening it rests with Bangkok.
Cambodia, it added, remains prepared to respond “appropriately and accordingly” to any developments.
Officials urged the public and journalists to verify information carefully and avoid being misled by unconfirmed reports.
