Cambodia Sees $150 Million in Tax Revenue from Renaissance  

PHNOM PENH, May 8, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia expects to collect about US$150 million in direct tax revenue from gold mining operations run by Renaissance Minerals, as the government expands support for responsible resource investment, officials said Thursday.

Speaking at the Cambodia Investment Forum 2026, Mines and Energy Minister Keo Rottanak said a second mining license had been granted to Renaissance following what he described as strong operational performance and environmental compliance.

“If current gold prices remain at similar levels and production continues over the coming years, the first and second mining projects together could generate around US$150 million in direct tax revenue,” Rottanak said.

He added that the government remains open to granting further licenses to companies that demonstrate responsible operations and environmental protection standards, stressing that responsible mining is central to Cambodia’s long term development strategy.

Gold mining has become a growing source of national revenue in recent years. According to the ministry, Cambodia produced about 18 tons of gold between 2021 and 2025 from projects in Preah Vihear, Kampong Thom, Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri, Kratie and Battambang provinces. The sector is expected to play a larger role in diversifying Cambodia’s economy, supporting fiscal stability and attracting new investment into resource based industries.
