PM Hun Manet, Azerbaijani Envoy Pledge Stronger Economic, Political Ties

PHNOM PENH, May 12, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet met Sunday with Elchin Amirbayov, a senior Azerbaijani presidential envoy, as the two countries pledged to deepen economic and political cooperation.
Amirbayov, Azerbaijan’s representative for special assignments, praised Cambodia as an important partner and conveyed an invitation from President Ilham Aliyev for Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet to attend the 2026 summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), which Azerbaijan will host.
The envoy highlighted growing ties between the legislative and executive branches of both governments and said Baku sought to expand collaboration in trade, investment and private‑sector partnerships.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet welcomed what he described as the steady development of relations, saying the partnership created opportunities to broaden cooperation across multiple sectors.
He stressed Cambodia’s efforts to diversify international partnerships and expand global engagement.
The talks covered potential collaboration in politics, energy, tourism, culture, education and agriculture, as well as plans to boost business links through investment forums and business‑to‑business meetings aimed at increasing bilateral trade.
