Cambodia Expands Relief for Displaced Families in Banteay Meanchey

BANTEAY MEANCHEY, Cambodia, May 12, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian authorities have intensified relief efforts for displaced families in Banteay Meanchey province, with a senior minister visiting temporary housing and schooling facilities to assess conditions and encourage continued support.

Senior Minister Kun Kim, First Vice Chairman of the National Committee for Disaster Management, toured Sla Kram commune in Svay Chek district on May 11, where families uprooted by border tensions are living in provisional shelters and children are attending classes at a temporary school.

The facilities were established with backing from the Cambodia Veterans Association, alongside government‑led measures to provide food, water, and basic services.

Kun Kim praised teachers for sustaining education under difficult circumstances, saying their work was vital to ensuring uninterrupted learning for children affected by displacement.

He said the Royal Government under Prime Minister Hun Manet is prioritizing assistance through shelter provision, infrastructure support including roads and utilities, and livelihood aid for affected households.

Authorities noted that temporary schooling arrangements are in place while longer‑term resettlement plans are developed to provide stability for families.

Officials added that broader efforts to resolve border‑related challenges remain underway through legal and diplomatic channels, stressing that humanitarian support will continue alongside negotiations.

The visit underscored the government’s commitment to maintaining essential services and protecting vulnerable communities as relief operations expand in the province.
