PHNOM PENH, May 15, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to resolving border disputes through peaceful negotiations and international law, warning against the human cost of armed conflict.

Speaking at the 19th anniversary of Cambodia Veterans Day in Phnom Penh, Samdech ThipadeiHun Manet said the country had endured decades of war and suffering and must avoid further violence.

“We have seen war, sacrifice, loss of life and suffering,” he said, adding that Cambodia would continue pursuing dialogue even when prospects appeared slim.

“If we have even a 1% chance to solve it through peaceful means, we have to work hard to do it.”

The prime minister stressed that border issues must be addressed through diplomacy and peaceful mechanisms rather than force.

He also referred to negotiations over a maritime memorandum of understanding, noting Cambodia had turned to international mechanisms after talks collapsed.

“They closed dialogue and negotiation, so we went straight to the international mechanism,” he said.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet rejected accusations that Cambodia would compromise its territorial integrity, declaring: “No one kneels down to cut land for another nation.”
