Industry Ministry Pushes Stronger Safety Standards as Manufacturing Expands
PHNOM PENH, May 19, 2026 (KPT) — The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation said Monday it is tightening industrial safety standards and technical compliance measures as the country’s manufacturing sector continues to expand and modernize.
In partnership with Te Zhong Shebei Jiance Yanjiu Yuan Cambodia, the ministry organized a workshop on implementing a memorandum of understanding covering certification and safety standards for high‑risk industrial equipment and machinery used in factories and handicraft enterprises.

Presided over by Secretary of State Dr. Tung Siny, the event drew more than 300 participants including government officials, industry representatives, factory owners and business associations.
The initiative aims to strengthen awareness and improve enforcement of technical and safety management standards for equipment such as boilers, high‑pressure storage tanks and other potentially hazardous machinery.
The programme encouraged factory owners, managers and operators to place greater emphasis on workplace safety and responsible equipment use. Dr. Siny said improving industrial safety is essential for boosting productivity, protecting workers and enhancing competitiveness in line with international standards.
He added that reforms are particularly important as the country prepares to graduate from Least Developed Country status, making industrial modernization and compliance vital for sustaining growth and attracting investment.
The ministry emphasized that stronger safety standards will support the long‑term goal of building a resilient, efficient and internationally competitive manufacturing sector, ensuring that industrial expansion is matched by improved protection for workers and communities.
