NEW YORK, May 29, 2026 (KPT) — China has voiced support for Cambodia and Thailand to resolve their border dispute through dialogue, with Foreign Minister Wang Yi pledging Beijing’s constructive role in consolidating peace.

“China supports Thailand and Cambodia in adhering to dialogue and consultation to consolidate the ceasefire, gradually rebuild mutual trust and resolve disputes peacefully, and stands ready to continue playing a constructive role in this regard,” Wang said during talks with Thai representative Sihasak Phuangketkeow.

In separate talks with Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, Wang reaffirmed China’s backing for Cambodia’s development and praised Phnom Penh’s efforts to ease tensions along the frontier.

Sokhonn thanked Beijing for supporting the ceasefire and peaceful settlement of the dispute.
The remarks follow a trilateral meeting in Yunnan in December 2025, where Wang hosted his Cambodian and Thai counterparts.

That session urged both sides to strengthen the ceasefire, rebuild trust and manage border tensions through dialogue.

A joint press release outlined five areas for cooperation: consolidating the ceasefire, resuming exchanges, rebuilding political trust, achieving a turnaround in bilateral relations and safeguarding regional peace.

Both sides emphasized the value of peace and pledged to implement the ceasefire agreement, use dialogue mechanisms at all levels and jointly manage disputes to maintain stability along the border.
