Cambodia Secures China Market Access for Dried Longan Exports
PHNOM PENH, June 4, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has secured access to the Chinese market for dried longan exports after signing two key sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) protocols with Beijing, officials said Wednesday.
The agreements were concluded on June 3 during a bilateral meeting between Cambodian Agriculture Minister Dith Tina and Chinese Customs Minister Sun Meijun.

Under the protocols, Cambodian dried longan will be eligible for export to China once producers comply with agreed SPS requirements. The two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in plant and animal quarantine and the import and export of safe food products.
Dith Tina hailed the deal as “another important achievement” in Cambodia-China agricultural cooperation, noting efforts to streamline registration procedures and strengthen technical collaboration with China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC).
The SPS protocols set standards for production, harvesting, processing, packaging, storage and transportation to ensure Cambodian products meet China’s food safety and biosecurity rules. Officials stressed that SPS approval is a prerequisite for agricultural goods to enter the Chinese market legally.
The signing underscores the two countries’ commitment to deepen agricultural and trade ties while expanding opportunities for Cambodian farmers and agribusinesses.
Officials said the agreements would help diversify Cambodia’s export basket, raise quality and safety standards, and boost the presence of Cambodian products in one of the world’s largest consumer markets.
Cambodia’s agriculture ministry reported export revenues of $6.46 billion in 2025, up 7.3 percent from the previous year. Key shipments included rice, rubber, cassava, cashew nuts, mangoes, pepper, bananas and durian.
China remains one of Cambodia’s top trading partners and a major destination for its farm exports. Bilateral trade reached $19.7 billion in 2025, driven largely by rising imports from China.
