Cambodia Thanks Malaysia for Mediation on Border Dispute

PHNOM PENH, June 4, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia has expressed appreciation to Malaysia for its role in facilitating dialogue with Thailand over their border dispute, officials said Thursday.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn conveyed the thanks during talks with Malaysia’s Ambassador to Cambodia, Shaharuddin bin Onn, at the foreign ministry on June 3.

Prak Sokhonn praised Malaysia’s constructive engagement in its capacity as ASEAN chair, noting its efforts to encourage discussions aimed at finding a peaceful and mutually acceptable solution.

He underlined Cambodia’s appreciation for ASEAN’s continued role in supporting dialogue, stability and regional cooperation.

The minister reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving disputes peacefully in line with international law, ASEAN principles and existing mechanisms for dialogue.

He stressed the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement and close coordination among member states to maintain regional peace.

Ambassador Shaharuddin expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highlighted the strong cooperation extended by Cambodia’s foreign ministry to the Malaysian embassy.

He said continued collaboration would help advance bilateral relations and support ASEAN’s broader objectives.

Both sides also discussed ways to strengthen Cambodia–Malaysia ties, including cooperation within ASEAN frameworks and ongoing engagement between their foreign ministries.
